Michael Steele, Former RNC Chair, Says Democrats Could Take The House Back From The GOP!

The former Republican chairman who oversaw his party's takeover of the House of Representatives in 2010 thinks the Democrats could turn the tables this year.

To win the majority in the last election, the GOP needed 39 seats and won 63. This year, the Democrats need 25, and former Republican National Committee chief Michael Steele said Friday that they may do it, especially with President Barack Obama running hard and a potentially weak GOP contender at the top of the ticket.

"Twenty-five seats is not a lot," Steele said on MSNBC.

"When we won those seats that were formerly held by Democrats, that were in not necessarily strong Democrat districts but Democrat districts, those Republicans now have to go on the defense in an environment where the president is really going to be engaged," Steele elaborated. "The top of the ticket right now for the Republicans is a question mark, but if that individual's not strong, you could have a downward pressure on that individual congressman, and that forces that person out."

Fed up with Republicans

That white flag of surrender is beginning to fly.

This is where the Republicans obstructionism for the last 2 years is really going to backfire on the Republican Party.

The time to say I told you so is coming soon. They have no one to blame but themselves. And I hope that ANYONE that was involved with that obstructionism LOSES any credibility they have in future politics. Inc... Ryan, Cantor and the little pack of dogs they run with.

When Mr "Die Hard Republican" Michael Steele begins to waiver on Republican chances in 2012 you can almost sense that the Republicans are running on empty.

Steele is from the "old school" republican party. The one that was in place before it was overrun by extremists. I still can't agree with his party any longer, but he's no extremist.

Lindsey Graham, before he fell in line with the extremists, for his own political survival said the GOP, if they stayed the course they are on (when the teabags began their reign of petulance), would end up being just a club. Graham's prediction is coming true, and Steele can see the beginnings of it now. He has his finger on the pulse of the party much better than the rest of us, and I trust his assessment.

The GOP truly has no record, in this congressional cycle, to run on. There has been no legislation to speak of. Forget the teabag mantra of going to Washington to "change things," all that happened is their refusal to act in this country's best interest will be their only platform. They ended up protecting the very entities they originally were so against, which is why the teabags even existed. So much for their "referendum."

Now all they have are rigid idealogues who have no interest in doing the country's business, and in fact, aiding and abetting the plutocrats. Sort of blows the whole message of what they even call themselves.

Michael Steele can see things shaping up, and the REAL referendum is coming, and all he can do is watch. Think his party will listen to him? They've purged all the other sane republicans out. There's no one left to go to.

Sorry to be the fly in the ointment, but the Teapubs have a good chance of taking over the Senate. The class up for re-election is the 2006 Demo stampede. It won't be that difficult for Teapubs to flip some of those seats.

Irregardless of what Mr Steele say, I pledge to do my part to make his prediction come true. These regressive, obstructionist, Republicans have to go. If for no other reason; to tamper those mob type audiences, represented at these so-called Presidential debates...

the Republicans are running on empty

The republicans have been running on empty for quite some time. They have no ideas, no plans and no real reason for existence.

And yes, the republicans will lose the House in November

@Sam Spade,

Yes, that could very well be true, yet the senate has the record number of filibusters that the GOP have yet to explain further than McConnell's claim that he wanted to make President Obama a "one-term president." That really doesn't explain the filibusters.

Then there's Harry Reid's ability to maintain his leader's seat in an election in a red state. During the period when the bulk of those filibusters were taking place.

Your assertion may very well come true, we'll have to see....the mood of the country isn't all that favorable to republicans right now, though.

If the American people look at what was done to our country and to most of the citizens of this Nation during the current congress's term. They will not only vote the GOP/TP'ers out they will send a strong message to the Democrats that this is not about politics. It is about turning America around and getting the Fascist Pigs out of power forever !!!

If you serve the wealthy alone you are not needed. We need work that pays a decent wage, and corporations are businesses not a person !!!

If they want to send work to China let them move to China !!! China can take care of her own and we should as well.

Unfortunately for them, that's not going to be enough.Their Presidential nominee doesn't inspire and isn't well liked, the Tea Partiers have been exposed as idiot fanatics, and the economy continues to improve. It all adds up to Obama's re-election and the dems controlling Congress.

You can say what you want about Michael Steele but the fact of the matter is that he planned and led the Republican 2010 Congressional election victory.

And if he says the Republicans are in danger of losing that majority I believe him.

I think Steele only held that position because the Repubs felt they had to prove they weren't racist after Obama's election. I'd say it didn't work very well.

The 2010 elections were more a result of the messiness of the health care reform battle and the demagoguery of the stimulus package than anything Steele planned. That and the fact many Dems stayed home thinking Obama was going to magically make everything cool or something.Remember the RNC didn't have money and was rather disorganized at the time.

I sure hope Mr. Steele is right. The only hope our great country has is for President Obama to be re-elected and the Democrats to win the House and Senate. This will allow the Democrats to do as they have done for the last 80 years and that is to clean up Republicans messes and put the country back on the road to prosperity.

The only way President Obama could lose this election is because the Supreme Court now allows Money to buy the Presidency.

Michael Steele is a perfect example of what it's like to get screwed without being given the chance to fix your makeup.

He took a party on the very edge of obsolescence (think: "Wig Party") and brought it back to a position of prominence, and he did it in only ONE election cycle (as Mr. Steele said, they -- and I'm a staunch Democrat mind you -- kicked a#$ in 2010, more so that I thought possible).

And for his trouble? His reward? To be thrown out on his ass the minute he took the party from being cocktail party joke back to something worth being called again.

I was very pleased to see Mr. Steele get picked up by MSNBC and wish him all the luck in the World (and -- for all our sakes -- I hope he's able to witness his party being reclaimed from the f$%king amateurs it's currently being occupied by "tea party").

From the day Obama got elected, the Reps saw their world tumble down and swore to make him a one-term president. O, God knows they haved worked restlessly to that end by mean of lies, plots, oppositions, obstructions, protests, defamations, critics, discredits, personal attacks etc.. along with their paid allies, Fox News, Glen Beck, Hanity, Limbaugh; televissions, newspapers, radios, internet, Teaparty, etc..
But it looks like all their actions seem to have achieved just the opposite of their objective. It shows that whatever the Reps try to do fails miserably and backfires at them.

They act like reckless children. They don't mind paralyze the country just to demote one person to get to power. If they succeed, then they will blame the president for all the damages they cause to the country while trying to take him down. What is sadder is that they have a whole lots of brainwashed zombies asking them for autographs, voting and clapping for them. Lordy. Lordy!

So true, but didn't Mr Obama promise to cut George's huge deficit in half? It didn't happen even with a huge Democratic majority for 2 yrs.

He did, and he will. But remeber, Bushs' last defict was 1.41 trillion dollars. The defict slated for this year Obama's 3rd budget is in the 1 trillion-800 billion dollar range, and his budget for 2013 his last 1st term budget will be around 700 billion.

Gotta love it. Steele villified the Dems. day and night, was one of the ones, along with KKKarl Rove who were responsible for the teapottiers getting elected. Once they did, he had served his purpose as the token Black in their party upper echelon, and they dumped him.
