Republicans evidently like winning elections, but not taking responsibility for results after the fact. Before the election the GOP released a “Pledge to America” in which they promised to repeal health care reform, dramatically cut spending, stimulate the economy, and restore trust in Congress once more. Now that they have gained a majority in the House of Representatives, Republicans seem to be absolving themselves of any and all blame for future failures of government.
In interview after interview, the Republican leadership has emphasized the same theme since last Tuesday. That theme has been something to the effect of “Yes, we got elected, but President Obama is still in charge, and therefore we cannot be blamed for anything.” Republicans essentially want to be given power, but not to be held accountable for it.
